AI review and governance · Client-facing work

Human review is not a failure of AI. It is how accountable work stays accountable.

Professional-services businesses do not need a blanket rule that every output is either automated or forbidden. They need practical boundaries for what the workflow prepares, what a person approves and how unusual cases are handled.

A useful distinction

Prepare

Gather, organise, draft

AI can help assemble inputs, identify missing information, create a first structure and surface relevant material for a person to consider.

Check

Compare, flag, explain

A workflow can apply agreed checks, point out conflicts or exceptions and show the source material that needs attention.

Decide

Keep authority explicit

A responsible person remains accountable for professional judgement, client commitments, sensitive exceptions and any outcome that needs informed approval.

Design the review

A reviewer needs more than a green tick.

A useful review point names the decision being made, the evidence needed to make it, the checks that should be applied and the action when the output does not fit the usual pattern.

It should also be possible to explain who changed a workflow, where its context came from and when an assumption should be revisited. That is a practical operating discipline, not a claim of certification.

Before client work

  1. What may this workflow prepare?
  2. What must a person approve?
  3. Which sources should a reviewer be able to see?
  4. What happens when an input is missing or unusual?
  5. Who owns the context, settings and review rhythm?

Questions

Does human review make AI less useful?

No. Review is how a business applies AI to work where accuracy, trust or professional judgement matters. The design question is where review belongs and what the reviewer needs.

What is an escalation path?

It is a clear path for outputs that are uncertain, incomplete, sensitive or outside the agreed workflow pattern. It prevents a system from treating every situation as routine.

Is this legal or compliance advice?

No. Governance needs to fit the business, its clients, its professional obligations and the systems it uses. Appropriate legal, privacy and security advice should be obtained where needed.

Next step · The assessment

Identify where review burden is obscuring a better workflow.

The assessment takes about five minutes. It helps identify where repeated work, context and review are getting in the way before deciding what should change.
